As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Czech-Korean relations, Ambassador Ivan Jančárek of the Czech Republic made an official visit to Ulsan on May 13, 2025. The visit focused on key areas of bilateral cooperation such as energy, education, and innovation and featured an engaging schedule.
The Ambassador’s first stop was the KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS), where he delivered a special lecture titled “The Czech Republic as an Energy Hub in Central Europe.” In his address, Ambassador Jančárek emphasized the Czech Republic’s energy strategy, its role in European energy security, and its commitment to peaceful nuclear energy development. He then held discussions with the acting president and faculty members of KINGS to explore academic and research exchange opportunities.
Following the lecture, the Ambassador met with 14 Czech students currently enrolled at KINGS, offering words of encouragement and expressing pride in their pursuit of advanced education abroad. He underlined the importance of educational exchange as a long-term foundation for deeper mutual understanding between the two countries.
Ambassador Jančárek then visited the Saeul Nuclear Power Plant, where he observed a simulation of nuclear plant operations. The tour provided valuable insights into Korea’s advanced nuclear technology and operational systems, laying the groundwork for future collaboration in the nuclear energy sector.
The final program of the visit was a courtesy meeting with Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom. During their conversation, Ambassador Jančárek and Mayor Kim discussed the sister city relationship between Ulsan and the Czech city of Ostrava, the presence and activities of Korean companies in the Czech Republic, and various avenues for future economic and industrial cooperation. Key areas identified included hydrogen energy, advanced manufacturing, and urban regeneration—underscoring the potential for dynamic partnerships at the local government level.
This visit to Ulsan clearly demonstrated the Czech Republic’s vision of becoming not just a diplomatic partner, but a strategic ally of Korea through technology and human capital exchange. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Seoul will continue to build on this momentum through cultural diplomacy and intersectoral cooperation that fosters mutual prosperity between the two nations.
