On October 27, 2025, the Embassy of Czechia in Seoul successfully hosted a National Day reception at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel. The event commemorated the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Korea, as well as the 107th anniversary of the establishment of the independent Czechoslovak Republic. It served as a meaningful occasion to celebrate the deepening friendship between the two nations and highlight their expanding cooperation in cultural, economic, and diplomatic fields.
Supported by STV Group, the Moravian-Silesian Region, the Ministry of Regional Development of the Czech Republic, Nexen Tire, Doosan Bobcat, CzechTourism, Pilsner Urquell, Marlenka, Tescan, Aurora, the South Moravian Region, and the Korea–Czech Association, the reception welcomed an audience of more than 300 guests, including members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, business leaders, cultural and media representatives.
In his welcome remarks, H.E. Ambassador Ivan Jančárek highlighted the remarkable progress the Czech Republic and Korea have made across various sectors over the past 35 years. “Our bilateral ties have flourished across politics, economy, and culture. Today, the Czech–Korean partnership stands as one of the most dynamic and exemplary relationships in Central Europe,” he stated. Referring to the recent signing of the contract for Units 2 and 3 of the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant, he added, “This project will not only strengthen the Czech Republic’s energy security, but also serve as a foundation to further expand cooperation in future-oriented sectors such as AI, semiconductors, electric vehicles, and defense.”
Ambassador Jančárek also noted the increasing people-to-people exchanges between the two nations, mentioning the launch of daily nonstop flights between Prague and Seoul and recent visits by delegations from the South and North Moravian Regions and Prague 6 District. “It is particularly encouraging to see younger generations learning each other’s languages and cultures. This human exchange forms the true foundation of lasting friendship,” he emphasized.
Vice Minister for Trade, Industry and Energy Moon Shinhak delivered congratulatory remarks, emphasizing Korea’s position as the Czechia’s third-largest investor, with more than 100 Korean companies actively operating in the Czech market, primarily in manufacturing and advanced technology sectors. Regarding the Dukovany project, he stated that Team Korea will draw upon more than five decades of experience and the successful construction of 36 nuclear reactors. We are fully committed to completing this project on time and within budget. He also expressed hopes for joint entry into third-country nuclear markets and highlighted plans to deepen cooperation in robotics, future mobility, and batteries through the establishment of an Industrial Cooperation Center to facilitate technology collaboration and talent exchange.
The reception opened with a performance by the Czech youth choir Severáček, who performed the national anthems of Korea, the Czech Republic, and the European Union, lending a solemn and celebratory tone to the evening. Guests also enjoyed displays from Czech organizations and companies, including Pilsner Urquell, Marlenka, South Moravia, and Prague Chocolate, offering an immersive cultural experience.
The event reaffirmed the strength of Czech–Korean relations and demonstrated the continued commitment of both nations to deepening collaboration across a wide range of sectors in the years to come.
