On May 28 and 29, 2025, the Czech Embassy in Seoul welcomed selected students for a two-day special event titled A Day with Ambassador 2025. Now in its second year, the program provides a meaningful platform for young people interested in diplomatic careers to explore what working in international relations truly entails.

The first day, May 28, was dedicated to the students who placed 2nd to 4th in the program’s final selection. They were invited to the embassy for a guided visit and a candid conversation with Ambassador Ivan Jančárek. The discussion focused on the path to becoming a diplomat, the day-to-day realities of diplomatic work, and the essential qualities needed in the profession.

Following the session with the Ambassador, the students met with staff from different sections of the embassy, including the Deputy Head of Mission, Commercial Section, Consular Section, and Public Diplomacy team. They learned how the embassy is structured and how each department contributes to the embassy’s overall mission. The insightful questions from the students sparked lively discussions and left a strong impression on the embassy team.

On May 29, the first-place winner of the program, student Seungheon Lee, spent a full day accompanying Ambassador Jančárek in his official duties. Together, they visited key institutions involved in Czech-Korean relations, including the National Folk Museum of Korea, The Korea Times, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Delegation of the European Union to Korea, and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP). Each visit highlighted different dimensions of the Czech Republic’s diplomatic and cultural partnerships in Korea. Rather than observing from a distance, Seungheon experienced firsthand how diplomats engage in dialogue, address international topics, and build networks with strategic partners.

This year’s A Day with Ambassador program provided much more than a glimpse into diplomatic life—it offered deep insight into how diplomacy shapes international cooperation. Ambassador Jančárek remarked, “Through the students’ enthusiasm and thoughtful questions, I could see the promise of future diplomats. I hope this experience serves as lasting inspiration as they pursue careers on the global stage.”

The event strengthened not only the students’ aspirations but also the ongoing friendship between Czechia and Korea, which is now reaching a new generation of global-minded leaders.
