Czech-Swedish New Year's concert with the handing over of the EU Presidency baton

On December 31, 2022, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Seoul, in cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden and the Czech Center Seoul, organized a New Year's concert and reception with a recap of the Czech Presidency of the EU and a presentation of the goals of the Swedish Presidency.

The event started with a concert in the prestigious music hall of the Seoul Arts Center performed by the musical group "WE Soloists". The program of the afternoon concert included compositions by well-known world authors (e.g. George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein and W.A. Mozart) in an interesting arrangement that combined classical music and jazz. At the end, compositions by Antonín Dvořák and the group Abba were also performed in a non-traditional way.

The guests from the ranks of diplomats of EU countries, Korean friends and partners from the government, business, artistic and academic spheres and compatriots accepted the invitation to the concert.

After the concert, a reception was organized in cooperation between the two embassies with a ceremonial "handing over" of the EU flag as a symbol of the official presidential role. Ambassador Gustav Slamečka opened the reception with a reminder of the most significant moments and achievements of the Czech presidency in the Council of the EU. He recalled the motto of the presidency "Europe as a task". As one of the most significant achievements of the presidency, the ambassador identified the preservation of EU unity in supporting Ukraine in the fight for freedom and progress in solving the urgent issues of the energy and climate crisis. Subsequently, chargé d'affaires and deputy of the Swedish ambassador Johannes Andreasson presented the objectives of the Swedish presidency.
