Czech Embassy in Seoul highlights Czech culture and spirit at the EU Day reception

On May 9, 2025, the Czech Embassy in Seoul took part in the Europe Day reception hosted by the Delegation of the European Union. Celebrating the EU’s motto “United in Diversity,” the event offered a vibrant platform where member states came together to showcase their unique cultures while embracing the shared values of unity, peace, and cooperation. It was a meaningful occasion where visitors could experience the rich cultural mosaic of Europe in one place.

Europe Day, observed on May 9, commemorates the historic Schuman Declaration, presented by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman in 1950. This pivotal statement is regarded as the starting point for the European nations' journey from the ruins of war toward a future grounded in peace, unity, and cooperation. The declaration laid the cornerstone of what is now the European Union, and every year, Europe Day is celebrated across the globe as a tribute to the core values of unity, peace, and solidarity.

This year’s event, hosted by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Korea, brought together EU member state embassies in Seoul, each operating a cultural booth to introduce their respective traditions, heritage, and tourism. Reflecting the spirit of European diversity and solidarity, the Embassy of the Czech Republic proudly participated with a vibrant booth that showcased the rich flavors and cultural appeal of Czechia.

Visitors to the Czech booth were invited to taste two of the country's most beloved culinary offerings: Pilsner Urquell, the world’s first golden lager, and Marlenka, a traditional Czech honey cake. These treats offered a glimpse into Czechia’s rich gastronomic heritage, with the deep flavor of Pilsner Urquell and the smooth sweetness of Marlenka earning high praise from attendees and contributing to the booth’s popularity.

In addition to the tasting experience, guests had the opportunity to learn about travel destinations in Czechia, study-abroad opportunities, and various cultural and artistic exchange programs. The Czech booth fostered meaningful conversations and warm exchanges, serving as a platform to promote both the values of European integration and Czechia’s unique national identity.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Seoul extends its sincere gratitude to the EU Delegation to Korea for organizing this meaningful celebration, and warmly thanks Pilsner Urquell and Marlenka for their generous support. The embassy remains committed to promoting peace and cooperation—the very ideals upon which Europe was built—and will continue to strengthen the friendly relations between Czechia and Korea through a wide range of public diplomacy initiatives.
