Czech culture in the Republic of Korea

The Czech Republic is perceived in the Republic of Korea as an important cultural destination. Czech music is traditionally popular in Korea. Every year, 2-3 Czech symphony orchestras and a number of smaller ensembles perform in Korea. Several Czech musicals have undergone a Korean adaptation, Korean translations of Czech books are being published, and the presence of Czech cinematography at Korean film festivals is well anchored. Czech theaters also perform relatively regularly in Korea, with the greatest interest in glass in design. The Czech Center, headed by director Michaela Lee, is active in Seoul.




School cooperation


In the field of education, there has been an Implementation Program for Cooperation in the Field of Education, Science, Research and Technology since 2014, which will enable the mutual exchange of government scholarship holders. Based on the framework program, the Czech side provides two two-year scholarships for university students a year. Relations between Czech and Korean universities are developing intensively (the first cooperation agreement between Charles University and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies was signed in 1990. Dozens of agreements between Czech universities and partner institutions not only in Seoul but also in Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, Suwon, Asan, Ansong, Cheonan and Jeonju Hundreds of Korean students are currently studying in the Czech Republic, appreciating the quality of Czech schools in English and low cost.
