The day commemorates both the beginning of the Velvet Revolution of 1989, which is one of the pinnacles of Czech history to end the Communist regime, and the courageous protests by Czech University students against Nazi occupiers in 1939.

The Embassy invited distinguished guests, colleagues, and Czech communities in Korea to Restaurant 1842 to congratulate this significant day together, immersed in the joy of Czech cuisine and beverages. Adding a cultural flourish to our celebration, students at Czech and Slovak Studies at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) graced the occasion with fascinating singing and dancing performances, adorned in authentic Czech music and costumes.

Reflecting on the historical occurrences of 17 November served as a reminder that democracy is a universal pursuit that goes beyond national boundaries. On this day, Koreans and Czechs stand together, united by the enduring spirit that craves freedom and justice.
