Ambassador Ivan Jančárek's interview with Arirang TV released online

Ambassador Ivan Jančárek's interview at Arirang TV's program 'Diplomat Talks' was released online on February 27, 2024.

Arirang TV, an international broadcasting station run by the Korea International Broadcasting Foundation, runs a program called "Diplomat Talks" where they have interviews with ambassadors in Korea to learn about the country's history, culture, and relations with Korea. This was Ambassador Jančárek's first interview with Arirang since he was appointed as ambassador to Korea in September, 2023.

Ambassador Jančárek said, "I was really looking forward to coming to Korea," adding, "There is a very positive image about Korea outside and I thought it would be interesting for to learn about Korea on the spot (by presiding as an ambassador.)" In addition, he mentioned the premium handmade glasses made in Czechia, which was delivered as a gift to the President of the Republic of Korea at the handover of the credential ceremony last year. Explaining that Czechia is know for the world's best crystal glass craftmanship, the ambassador added that "Moser has a history of more than 160 years."

Ambassador Jančárek also praised the Korea-Czech relations "excellent." He said that although it has been about 30 years since Korea and Czechia established formal diplomatic relations, but historically, the relationship between the two countries was more than that." For instance, the Czechoslovak Legions, formed during the World War 1, sold weapons to the Korean Independence Army, which contributed to the Korean army's great victory over the Japanese army at the Battle of Cheongsanri in October 1920. In addition, the newspaper published by the Czechoslovak Legions reported contemporaneously on Korea's March 1st Independence Movement several times, providing an opportunity for Korea's Independence Movement to become widely known in the West. The added that the Korea-Czech relationship, which has continued for more than 100 years, continues to this day, and exchanges between the two countries are growing year by year.
