The Czech delegation’s last schedule in Korea was to visit Hanam Union Park and meet the mayor of the city.
Hanam Union Park is a representative example of a Smart City solution in waste disposal. Sewage treatment, food waste, and recycling facilities were all buried underground, including a waste incinerator that can dispose of 48 tons a day. Above the ground, the city created an outdoor sports facility and a 105-meter-high observatory, the Union Tower, to transform a NIMBY facility into a civic shelter.
On the 16th, Deputy Prime Minister Ivan Bartoš’s delegation visited the underground incinerator and experienced the Union Tower to get inspiration for smart city solutions. The deputy prime minister also met Mayor of Hanam Lee Hyun-jae to discuss further exchanges between the Czech Republic and Hanam.
