On 13th January, 2026, Ambassador Ivan Jančárek paid a visit to Democratic Party Chairperson Jung Chung Rae to exchange views on the overall state of Czech-Korean relations.
The meeting was held to engage with the new leadership of the Democratic Party and to reaffirm the importance of Korea-Czech relations amid the current international environment, while reviewing past achievements and discussing possibilities for further expanding bilateral cooperation.
In particular, both sides assessed ongoing cooperation in strategically important areas such as nuclear energy, defense, and the automotive industry, and exchanged views on the potential for cooperation in a wide range of other fields, including science and technology, industrial innovation, and supply chain cooperation. They also noted the strong bilateral collaboration in future-oriented high-tech industries such as EV mobility, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence, and shared the view that cooperation should be further expanded beyond the traditional areas of energy and defense.
Ambassador Jančárek emphasized the importance of expanding people-to-people exchanges and shared recent statistics on bilateral tourism. The two sides discussed ways to revitalize tourism to pre-pandemic levels, including the increase in direct flights between Seoul and Prague, which currently operate 7 times a week.
The Ambassador also noted that the elections to the Chamber of Deputies were held in October last year, followed by the establishment of a new government in Czechia in December last year. He expressed hope that, under the new leadership, political dialogue between the two countries would be further invigorated through the resumption of exchanges not only between governments and ministries, but also between political parties and members of parliament. He stressed that continued high-level and working-level exchanges would contribute to the stable and sustainable development of bilateral relations.
Chairperson Jung stated that the two countries share common perspectives on issues such as energy security, carbon neutrality, and responses to the climate crisis. He noted his understanding that, following the Dukovany nuclear power plant project, both countries are working together to maintain and further develop cooperative relations across the broader energy sector.
The meeting is expected to serve as an opportunity to further solidify the strategic partnership between Czechia and Korea, built on a strong foundation of friendship, and to deepen mutual trust and cooperation.
