Financování maltského projektu v oblasti boje s nelegální migrací

Dne 16. 10. podepsali velvyslanci České republiky a Malty, Jan Kohout a Carmel Vassallo, dohodu o poskytnutí daru ve výši 25 milionů korun, který je určený na realizaci projektu výcviku a vybavení Libyjské pobřežní stráže a Ozbrojených sil Malty. Projekt bude realizován v rámci dobrovolného solidárního mechanismu EU, jímž se Česká republika zavázala pomáhat zemím pod migračním tlakem.

Jednání o poskytnutí daru, který je součástí programu Ministerstva vnitra ČR „Pomoc na místě”, bylo vedeno s realizátorem projektu na maltské straně, Ministerstvem vnitra, bezpečnosti, reforem a rovnosti. Z poskytnutých prostředků bude financován výcvik Libyjské pobřežní stráže, která zároveň spolu s Ozbrojenými silami Malty získá i potřebné vybavení na boj proti nelegální migraci.  

Velvyslanec Jan Kohout u příležitosti podpisu dohody na Velvyslanectví České republiky v Římě uvedl, že „vědomí potřeby pomáhat zemím pod migračním tlakem vychází také z bezprostřední zkušenosti České republiky, která dosud poskytla dočasnou ochranu více než půl milionu ukrajinským uprchlíkům“. Česká republika tak přijala nejvyšší počet uprchlíků z Ukrajiny na počet obyvatel ve srovnání s ostatními zeměmi EU, dodal velvyslanec. 

 

Funding for a Maltese project to combat illegal migration

On 16 October, the Ambassadors of the Czech Republic and Malta, Jan Kohout and Carmel Vassallo, signed an agreement on granting of an allocation of CZK 25 million for the implementation of a project to train and equip the Libyan Coast Guard and the Armed Forces of Malta. The project will be implemented within the framework of the EU Voluntary Solidarity Mechanism, by which the Czech Republic has committed to assist countries under migration pressure.  

Negotiations for the granting of the allocation, which is a part of the Czech Ministry of the Interior's “Aid on Place" programme, were conducted with the project implementer on the Maltese side, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Security, Reform and Equality. The donation will finance the training of the Libyan Coast Guard, which will, together with the Armed Forces of Malta, receive the necessary equipment to fight illegal migration. 

Speaking at the signing of the agreement at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Rome, Ambassador Jan Kohout said that "the awareness of the need to help countries under migratory pressure is also based on the direct experience of the Czech Republic, which has so far provided temporary protection to more than half a million Ukrainian refugees". The Czech Republic has thus received the highest number of refugees from Ukraine per capita compared to other EU countries, the Ambassador added.
