Earlier this year, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pristina, being aware of many environmental challenges that Kosovo is facing, approved a project of BB Green Kosova NGO on reporting on environmental issues.
Four months later results are visible. Through daily reports, interviews, and different articles BB Green Kosova journalists managed to involve many parts of the Kosovo society and institutions to draw attention and to react to the very poor state of the environment. Kosovo public as well as its Diaspora for the first time ever had a chance to see in series of articles of BB Green Kosova richness of flora and fauna in Kosovo!
BB Green Kosova being the only media reporting daily on Kosovo environmental issues offered to the public many stories on the devastation of the nature. Using the information from different sources journalists reported about pollution of rivers, lakes and air. Many of their stories have been taken over by other Kosovo media. What's more, some BB Green Kosova journalists have become characters of different talk shows on the main Kosovo TV Stations.
“Our journalists have concentrated not only on the negative side of environmental developments. They have also published many positive stories about the creating of green space by institutions and by inhabitants of Kosovo. Our intention, through our work, is to keep institutions accountable and at the same time to show to people that each of us must do something for ourselves and not always to wait for what institutions are going to do for us!”, said Behare Bajraktari from BB Green Kosova.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic has financed this project through our Embassy in Pristina to help the independent media in Kosovo. We are glad the project was successful and helped to raise an awareness about the crucial importance of environmental issues here in Kosovo. Nevertheless, there is a lot of work in Kosovo in this aspect both for the institutions, but also for the public. We are ready to continue to help in this effort”, said Pavel Bílek, Head of the Mission of the Czech Republic.
Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pristina supported this small local project in a framework of the Czech Transition Cooperation.
