Czech Development Cooperation - WWTP Badovac - Awareness Campaign

On 7 June 2017, the environment awareness campaign was completed in the framework of a project for the construction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) at Lake Badovac. The project is implemented through the means of the Foreign Development Cooperation between the Czech Republic and Kosovo and the construction of the WWTP for the valley with the villages of Mramor, Sutjeska and Bursia was its main part. The river flowing through the valley is the biggest water polluter of Lake Badovac which is the source of drinking water for the cities Gračanica and Pristina.

One part of the project was also the awareness campaign in three primary schools in the mentioned municipalities. The students learned about the basic principles of environmental protection during the campaign. Another parts of the event included the distribution of information materials prepared within the project and cleaning the Badovac lakeshore, where the students managed to collect more than 40 bags of garbage.

In the final stage of the awareness campaign, the pupils were asked to write an essay on the topic - the benefit of the wastewater treatment plant for our community. The submitted essays were assessed by the teachers and the representatives of the project sponsor, and the best of them were awarded with prizes. Czech Ambassador Mr. Ivo Šilhavý and the project manager Mr. Libor Novák handed the prizes over to the pupils. The award ceremony was finished with an excursion to the Badovac Wastewater Treatment Plant with a practical demonstration of the operation of this facility.
