Czech Ambassador received by Kosovo Prime Minister

The Prime Minister of Kosovo received the Czech Ambassador on the day the Czech Republic commemorates the closure of Czech universities following the riots linked to the burial of student Jan Opletal in 1939 and the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in 1989. This followed a previous meeting at a reception held on 28 October to mark the Czech Republic's national holiday.

Prime Minister Kurti and Ambassador Mazanek discussed bilateral relations and stressed their readiness to deepen cooperation in key areas such as the economy, trade, security and defense, parliamentary diplomacy and culture. Prime Minister Kurti stated that the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2022 was one of the most successful.

The Prime Minister expressed the "commitment" of the Kosovo government to the successful implementation of its strategic goals, which are the pursuit of membership in the Council of Europe, participation in NATO's Partnership for Peace programme and obtaining candidate status, which is an important milestone on the road to Kosovo's full EU membership. He thanked Ambassador Mazánek for the continued support provided by the Czech Republic to Kosovo.

Bohumil Mazánek assured Prime Minister Kurti of the Czech Government's continued support for the Western Balkan countries, including Kosovo, on their path to the EU.

Prime Minister Kurti expressed his condolences to the Czech people for the loss of Karel Schwarzenberg, an important post-war politician, former Foreign Minister (and also Chancellor, Deputy Prime Minister, Senator and MP).
