Team Europe in Cambodia and United Nations are working together in support of responsible business in agriculture and other industries

A joint EU and UN dialogue focused on responsible business took place on Thursday, 13th March, with participation of the Czech Ambassador Martin Vávra. On the following day, the EU officially launched its major project supporting sustainable practices in agriculture. Meanwhile, Czechia is preparing its own contribution to the development of Cambodian agriculture: a project focused on agricultural education to be launched in May 2025.

The main topics of the dialogue between the EU and the UN were strengthening responsible business practices, decent work and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The dialogue helped to identify key challenges and opportunities in the discussed areas, all with the goal of supporting Cambodia’s progress towards graduating from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status.

One of the major EU’s action to enhance sustainability of agriculture in Cambodia – project Agriculture Service Programme for Inclusive Rural Economy and Agricultural Trade (ASPIRE-AT) – was officially launched on Friday 14th March 2025 by the Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB Global) Ms. Nicola Beer and Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister  and Minister of Economy and Finance of Cambodia. The project aims at supporting sustainable practices in agriculture and enhancing food safety.

Czechia prepares its own contribution to the joint effort in empowering Cambodia’s agri-food sector with the project Improving the Efficiency of Agricultural Production through Quality Technologies and Education in Cambodia. The project aims at improving education and practices at National University of Battambang and in agricultural cooperatives in the Battambang Province. The project has been recently approved for implementation in years 2025-2027 and its launch is expected in May 2025.
