A Czech fairy tale delighted children from an orphanage in Phnom Penh

On September 24, 2023, Ambassador Martin Vávra attended the screening of the Czech fairy tale "Journey to Yourland" at House of Family, an orphanage for HIV/AIDS positive children in Phnom Penh. At the same time, the Embassy provided the children with promotional school bags.

The Czech Embassy, in cooperation with Czech Centers, organized for the third time the screening of the Czech animated fairy tale at the House of Family in the capital of Cambodia.

Since 2004, the orphanage has provided refuge for the first generation of children born with HIV who, after the death of their parents, ended up on the street or with relatives who themselves did not have sufficient resources for adequate care. Without treatment, children with HIV live an average of only 5-6 years, but with proper treatment, they can live a relatively full life. The project is implemented by the University of Health and Social Work of St. Elizabeth in Bratislava, the running itself is provided by the Czech citizen Ms. Monika Nová, doctor of social work from Charles University in Prague. Currently, the orphanage prepares children aged 6-22 for the future.

A total of 33 children attended the screening itself, who rewarded the Czech fairy tale "Journey to Yourland" with applause. The program also included the handing over of school backpacks with the logo of the Czech Republic, which was taken care of by the ambassador Martin Vávra. The children were visibly pleased with the practical gifts.
