
Exhibition "Otto Wichterle - The story of the Contact Lens"

The Embassy of the Czech Republic hosted during September the exhibition "Otto Wichterle - The story of the Contact Lens" as a participant in the Oslo Culture Night 2015. The exhibition was open also for parents and children during one afternoon and moved to the Oslo International School afterwards.
On Friday September 11, 2015 the 11th edition of Oslo Culture Night was held introducing the city's inhabitants and tourists to many cultural activities and events within music, theatre, art, literature and film. The Culture Night was organized by almost 130 institutions this year.
The Embassy of the Czech Republic traditionally took part in the event, this time by organizing a travelling exhibition about one of the most distinguished Czech scientist, Otto Wichterle. The diplomatic corps, Czech compatriots, students and Norwegian public had an occasion to watch a short animated film and to visit the exhibition including a replica of the Merkur based apparatus for centrifugal casting of contact lenses invented by Otto Wichterle.
The Embassy of the Czech Republic organized also an afternoon for Czech compatriots, parents with children on Sunday September 13, 2015. They got the possibility to visit the exhibition and to participate in the Merkur workshop. The Merkur construction set was lent by the CEO of the Merkur Toys Company and the Chairman of the Management Board of the Merkur construction set Museum in Police nad Metují Ing. Jaromír Kříž.
Then in the period of two weeks, the exhibition "Otto Wichterle - The story of the Contact Lens" was exhibited in the Oslo International School for pupils and students aged up to 18 years. A lot of teachers included Otto Wichterle in their lessons and students could try out the Merkur construction set during the breaks.
