Czech days in Bergen

On June 13–14, 2015 Gamle Vossebanen Museum in cooperation with Železniční společnost Tanvald (ZST) organized an event “Deepening Partnership – Czech days in Bergen“. As part of this event a historical train with steam locomotive from 1913 was dispatched from the Garnes station near Bergen to the historical track Oslo – Bergen. This track stopped its operation in the 60´s. Special 3-course menu and Czech beer were served on board of the historical train.

At the Garnes station the visitors enjoyed Czech grilled sausages from Tanvald and the Old Prague songs played by Czech musicians completed the pleasant atmosphere. Sales exhibition of jewelry from the Jizera Mountains was held. ZST presented its work together with the region of the Jizera and the Giant Mountains where it operates. The programme was organized with help of the general manager of the Gamle Vossebanen Museum Ivar Gubberud and ZST director Petr Prokeš, ZST members Jiří Střecha and Lukáš Pleticha, member of the Czech parliament at the time, and of other members of these two institutions.

Volunteer organizations Norsk Jernbaneklubb Museet Gamle Vossebanen and ZST o.p.s. created a mutual cooperation in 2012. This cooperation is based on the experience with running of historical railways. ZST members were for the second time in Norway, for the first time in 2013. The event was a follow-up to the Norwegian day on Zubačka from the August last year. There were two historical trains dispatched from Kořenov and Czech visitors could taste Norwegian cuisine. Gamle Vossebanen Museum was presented to the Czech audience.

Based on the cooperation with a Norwegian partner, ZST succeeded with its project Zubačka – Unique and Living Cultural Heritage of the Jizera Mountains and the Giant Mountains. The project was supported by EEA grants of Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway, to be more specific, from the programme of Cultural heritage and contemporary art. This event “Deepening Partnership – Czech days in Bergen” was supported also by the Bilateral Czech-Norwegian Co-operation Fund.

Vice Mayor of the city of Bergen Tor Woldseth, director of heritage affairs of County of Hordaland Per Morten Ekerhovd, senior adviser of Jernbaneverket Ole Magne Kjellevold, Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Bergen Dag Stiegler and on behalf of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Oslo Gabriela Jáčová accepted the invitation to the event on Saturday June 13. The two-days event was attended not only by the Norwegian public, but also by the Czech compatriots from Bergen and the surrounding area.
