100th anniversary of declaration of Czechoslovakia celebrated by both Embassies in Nicosia

Czech and Slovak Embassy in Nicosia held a joint celebration of the declaration of independence of a common state in 1918. A chamber duo comprising of musicians from both countries, pianist Zuzana Berešová and violinist Pavel Burdych, performed at a concert in Nicosia on 8 November 2018.
The joint festive event held in Pallas Theatre in Nicosia was attended by Cyprus politicians including the President of the House of Representatives Demetris Syllouris, Czech and Slovak compatriots living in Cyprus and members of the diplomatic corps. Ambassador of the Czech Republic Helena Bambasová and Slovak Ambassador Ján Škoda both emphasized the key role Czechoslovakia played in the history of both countries, highlighted excellent relations between the two nowadays independent states and underlined longstanding deep bonds of Czechs and Slovaks in their opening remarks.
A chamber duo of Slovak pianist Zuzana Berešová and Czech violinist Pavel Burdych has been performing together since 2004 and has dedicated its work to classical authors from both countries. In Nicosia they presented pieces by most famous Czech and Slovak composers (Janáček, Machajdík, Dvořák, Zeljenka, Martinů, Kéler, Shneider-Trnavský, Smetana, Suk and Kupkovič) and their performance won a great recognition of the audience.
