
Czech embassy celebrating National Day and the 1989 Velvet Revolution

Ambassador Helena Bambasová hosted a reception to celebrate Czech National Day marking the declaration of independence in 1918 as well as the upcoming 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution which led to the fall of communist regime in Czechoslovakia in November 1989. In her opening speech she highlighted the people’s desire for freedom in Czechoslovakia and across the region that triggered the democratic transition of Central and Eastern European states in the critical year of 1989. Together with the guest of honor Minister of Agriculture Costas Kadis they inaugurated an exhibition of contemporary photos covering the key milestones of 1989 events which was kindly provided by the Office of the President of the Czech Republic.
