Czech Foreign Affairs Minister Tomas Petricek in India

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Tomas Petricek visited Republic of India from January 13th to 17th, 2020. On this occasion he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar with other Cabinet members. He also participated and was a keynote speaker at the prestigious international forum Raisina Dialogue 2020. The Minister was accompanied by the Czech Business Delegation.

In the recent months, we have succeeded in reviving the dialogue with India on the highest level. India is an interesting partner for us and for the business cooperation, so I am glad that I was accompanied by representatives of the Czech companies who made useful contacts here,” he noted.

The main point of his India's visit was to discuss this topic with his Indian counterpart Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The Chief of the Czech diplomacy also invited him to the  to the Central Europe - India Forum  which will take place in Prague in the middle of 2020.

Together with Honourable Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Civil Aviation, Housing and Urban Affairs, Minister Petricek discussed about the possibility to re-establish the direct flight between Czechia and India. About 30 years ago there was a flight between Prague and Mumbai.

The Czech Foreign Affairs Minister had also talks with Honourable Rajnath Singh, Minister of Defence,  and  with Honourable Piyush Goyal, Minister of Trade and Industry.

An important part of the Minister’s trip was the participation at the two Czech-Indian Business Foras, attended by representatives of twelve Czech companies. Historically, the Czech companies have a very good reputation and tradition in India.

JAWA motorcycles have always been popular on the Indian market. We therefore welcomed the fact that the brand returned to India in 2018. The motorcycle was designed in cooperation with the Czech JAWA brand holders and Indian company Mahindra. This is an interesting example of cooperation between Czech and Indian companies,” said Minister.

Significant point of the Minister’s visit was his speech at the 5th edition of Raisina Dialogue, prestigious international forum held annualy in New Delhi. This extraordinary meeting of world politicians and representatives of public life generates a lot of topics for further discussion.

The event is co-organized by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

Similar events are always a great opportunity to make the Czech Republic more visible in the world. But Raisina Dialogue is also the best platform for our interest in becoming an important partner of India,” said Minister. He spoke at the Forum about the current position of Europe in a multipolar world.

Apart from Raisina Dialogue, Minister also called on Honourable Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India.

During his visit to India, Minister Petricek paid tributes to Indira Gandhi and Mahatma Gandhi.

Minister Petricek also negotiated with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Honourable Abdulla Shahid. He promised to look into the matter that the Czech Republic allows citizens of Maldives to apply for Schengen Visa directly in Male.

Another important meeting he had with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Honourable Abdulaziz Kamilov.

He was also interacting with the Honorary Consuls of the Czech Republic in India, Bangladesh and Nepal.

The chief of the Czech diplomacy also visited Taj Mahal in Agra, a world known UNESCO monument,  and he also interacted with Vice Chancellor and other professors of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Agra.
