Visit of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security in India between April 26 and 30, 2015

Delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security of the Senate comprised of the Committee Chairman F. Bublan and senators H. Meziane, P. Kunčar, J. Regéc, Advisor to the Committee P. Fleischmann and interpreter T. Opočenský. The Czech Senate Committee held official talks with Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament of India, attended the sessions of both chambers of the Indian Parliament (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) and was received by Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chairman of the opposition in the Upper House of Parliament, and by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Venkaiah Naidu.

Delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security of the Senate also had the opportunity to discussed broader foreign policy and security issues with analysts and experts on Indian foreign policy and representatives of several renowned think-tanks, ie. IDSA (Institute for Defense Studies and Analysis) and USI (United Service Institution of India).

Later on during the official lunch the Czech Senate Committee met with the leadership of key companies in the Indian defense industry (BEML Limited, Mahindra Defence Systems, BrahMos Aerospace, Larsen and Toubro, Firmbase Consulting, Fedders Lloyd), and the delegation furthermore had the opportunity to discuss the current policy of the government towards the sector of defense industry with representatives of Security and Defence Divisions CII (Confederation of Indian Industry).

At the official dinner hosted by Ambassador M. Stašek the delegation also met with the ambassadors of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the Maldives and the Slovak Republic in New Delhi and Director of the Central Europe Department of the MFA of India R. Chhabra.

On April 29, 2015, the Delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security of the Senate paid visit to the Government of West Bengal in Calcutta where they were received by the Governor of the state of West Bengal Keshar Nath Tripathi,  Chairman of the Legislative Assembly Biman Banerjee, and Chairman of the opposition in the Legislative Assembly of West Bengal Surya Kanta Mishra.
