Congratulations to Petr Klement on his appointment as Director-General of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF)

On 4 November 2025, the College of the European Commission appointed Mr. Petr Klement, the representative of the Czech Republic, as Director-General of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF). This marks the first time in history that a Czech national has taken the helm of the EU’s anti-corruption body, and also the first time a Czech citizen has been appointed Director-General of a European Union institution.

Mr. Petr Klement currently represents the Czech Republic as European Prosecutor at the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO). Since July 2023, he has also served as Deputy to the European Chief Prosecutor, Laura Kövesi.

The appointment of Mr. Petr Klement to this prominent position within the EU institutions is first and foremost a recognition of his outstanding professional qualifications, but also an exceptional honour for the Czech Republic as a whole and an inspiration for other Czech citizens working in EU institutions — whom the Czech Republic will continue to systematically support under its existing governmental Strategy for the Promotion of Czech Nationals in EU Institutions.
