- The European Commission has opened applications for the Blue Book Traineeship, one of the most prestigious traineeship programmes within the EU institutions. Selected participants will undertake their traineeship from 1 March to 31 July 2027.

Important Dates:

- Applications: from 22 July 2026, 10:00 a.m. to 4 September 2026, 10:00 a.m. (Brussels time)

- Preselection: September to October 2026

- Selection of candidates: November to December 2026

Applicants may submit only one application per selection session and choose one type of traineeship: administrative traineeship (ADMIN) or translation traineeship (DGT). We recommend that applicants do not leave the submission of their application until the last minute.

Trainees work in European Commission departments, its executive and decentralised agencies, Commissioners’ Cabinets, or the European External Action Service (EEAS).

The programme offers:

- practical experience in the development and implementation of European Union policies,

- professional skills development,

- experience in a multicultural working environment,

- enhanced language and intercultural competences.

The new framework of the programme provides broader access for applicants. The traineeship is now also open to 18-year-old graduates of vocational education and training programmes, provided they possess adequate language skills. At the same time, the European Commission is expanding participation opportunities for applicants from EU candidate countries. The changes are also intended to reduce the high number of applications from third countries whose candidates had no realistic chance of being selected.

The European Commission continues its efforts to increase the attractiveness of Luxembourg as a place of work for trainees. A special cost-of-living adjustment has therefore been established for trainees based in Luxembourg, reflecting the higher cost of living.

For trainees assigned to Luxembourg during the March 2027 session, the following benefits apply:

- a monthly allowance of €1,572,

- the possibility of receiving an accommodation allowance (20% of the monthly allowance),

- a one-off travel allowance of €275 (subject to programme conditions).

Trainees with disabilities may, upon submission of the required documentation, receive an additional allowance of up to 50% of the adjusted monthly allowance.
