Czech Defence Mission in Zambia: Deepening Strategic Ties and Supporting Czech Industry

A mission of the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic led by Deputy Director General Michal Rendla visited Zambia together with representatives of leading Czech defence and security companies to advance cooperation in this strategic sector and support ongoing business cases.

The delegation was received at the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Zambia by Permanent Secretary Mr. Maambo Hamaundu, together with senior representatives of the Zambia Army, Zambia Air Force, Zambia National Service, and the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security, as well as commissioners or deputy commissioners from the Zambia Police, Immigration, and other relevant agencies.

Meetings focused on capability development, localisation and maintenance frameworks, training, and long-term industrial cooperation. Company briefings presented Czech solutions across aviation, command-and-communications, surveillance and detection, ground systems, and unmanned platforms, tailored to Zambia’s operational needs. Participating firms included, among others, OMNIPOL, Colt CZ Group, Excalibur International, DSS, Bowenite, MESIT, and TRL Space Systems.

Results and next steps. Both sides confirmed interest in structured follow-up to translate discussions into concrete projects through technical workshops and industry-to-industry talks. The mission underscored Czechia’s readiness to be a reliable partner for Zambia’s security and defence modernisation, linking practical capability gains with sustainable industrial cooperation.
