For one day, Ms Munachilemba Lushomo, a Grade 12B pupil from Kabulonga Girls Secondary School, took on the role of Czech Ambassador for a Day. Accompanied by Deputy Head Teacher Ms Milimo Mwanachingwala Monde, she followed a full diplomatic programme designed to show how an Embassy works in practice and how diplomacy connects countries, institutions and people.

The day began with a briefing at the Embassy, where Ambassador Jiří Kyrian and the Embassy team introduced key areas of Czech-Zambian cooperation, including political relations, development cooperation, public diplomacy, culture, consular work, education, scholarships and communication with the public.

The programme continued with a visit to the Czech Development Agency, where Ms Lushomo learned about Czech development cooperation in Zambia and its practical impact, including support in agriculture, education, health cooperation, humanitarian response and sustainable development.

A special part of the day was the ceremony for the International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice, during which Ms Lushomo presented an Honourable Mention to Tamanda Bushe from ChristLife School Lusaka. Tamanda was recognised in the 54th edition of the international children’s art competition, whose theme was “Book”.

At the Ambassador’s Residence, Ms Lushomo took part in a working lunch with women leaders from diplomacy, the United Nations, journalism and civil society. The discussion focused on diplomacy, leadership, education, public service and the role of women in decision-making.

The day concluded with cake, coffee and tea at the Ambassador’s Residence, where Ambassador Jiří Kyrian presented Ms Lushomo with a certificate of participation. The closing gathering brought together students, alumni, media representatives and friends of the Embassy with direct or indirect experience with Czechia.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Lusaka hopes that Czech Ambassador for a Day will become a meaningful tradition in Zambia and inspire more young people, especially girls and young women, to take interest in diplomacy, leadership and public service.
