Applying for a Certificate of Czech citizenship
Citizenship certificate issued in last 12 months is a proof of Czech citizenship. Its possession is not mandatory as a valid passport or national identity card can be used as a proof of Czech citizenship. However, it is necessary to obtain and submit citizenship certificate when a person wishes to apply for a Czech passport abroad and does not possess other proof of citizenship issued in the Czech Republic (valid passport or valid national ID card).
For renewing the certificate – existing Czech citizenship, the following documents are required:
- Printed and completed documentation: Citizenship_Adult
- Expired Czech Passport (if available) + your valid British Passport (if available)
- If the applicant does not have a valid passport, it is necessary to appear accompanied by a witness (a person with a valid passport/CZ identity card) who will confirm his identity
- Czech Birth Certificate (original). Duplicate of birth certificate can be obtained (if lost) for an extra 10 GBP - ONLY IF YOU WERE BORN IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
- Photocopy of ID card
First application for applicants aged 0-14, the following documents are required:
- Printed and completed documentation: Citizenship_Child_under_15
- Czech birth certificate of the child (not a British birth certificate translated into Czech)
- Valid passport or national ID card of the parent - if available, a previous Czech passport or previous Certificate of Czech Citizenship of the child
- Ifapplicable, a document proving the acquisition of foreign citizenship (e.g., a British naturalization certificate) with a higher verification (apostille or super-legalization) and its official translation into Czech
At least one parent must be present at the application
The child's presence is not required at this stage
First application for applicants aged 15 and older, the following documents are required:
- Printed and completed documentation: Citizenship_Adult
- Person aged 15 and older must apply in person
- Czech birth certificate – issued by official authority in Czech Republic “Rodný list”
- Czech marriage certificate if applicable – issued by official authority in Czech Republic “Oddací list”
- If available, previous passport, national ID card, previous Certificate of Czech Citizenship, driver’s license, etc.
- if applicable, a document proving acquisition of foreign citizenship (e.g., a British naturalization certificate) with a higher verification (apostille or super-legalization) and its official translation into Czech
Fees apply according to the current schedule of charges (approximately 22 GBP). We prefer payments by card.
