The opening ceremony was attended by the Acting Governor of Gibraltar, Mrs. Alison MacMillan as well as by the Hon Samantha Sacramento, Minister for Tourism, Housing, Equality and Social Services and by the Hon Gilbert Licudi, Minister for Education and Justice & International Exchange of Information and, members of the Consular Corps in Gibraltar. On the sidelines of the opening ceremony, Ambassador Sečka held meetings with Mrs. MacMillan and the Hon Fabian R Picardo QC MP, the Chief Minister of Gibraltar.

The newly opened office in Gibraltar is, after Edinburgh, Belfast and Manchester, the 4th Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic which is overseen by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London. The Head of the Honorary Consulate, Mr. Stanislav Čech, has lived in Gibraltar since 2006 where he has also worked, among other positions, as the accountant for the Hassans International Law Firm.

Although the main activity of the Honorary Consulate will primarily focus on a consular agenda, Mr Čech shall, given his previous professional experience, also focus on topics such as trade and economy, culture and, education.

The Honorary Consulate officially opens its doors for Czech citizens on Tuesday 19th July 2016, initially for two hours a week. The main activities of the Honorary Consulate will include assistance to Czech citizens in terms of arranging their emergency travel documents, legalization activities etc.
