Charles University visits the United Kingdom

A delegation from Charles University in Prague led by the Rector, Tomáš Zima, visited the United Kingdom, where it discussed possible scientific and educational cooperation with other universities. In addition, the delegation met at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London with Charles University alumni based in the city.

On 18th April 2017, a delegation representing Charles University and its faculties, led by Rector Tomáš Zima, started its journey throughout the United Kingdom. 

On its first day, the delegation discussed possibilities for cooperation at the University of Cambridge. Rector Zima and the vice-chancellor of the University of Cambridge, Eilis Ferran, expressed their interest in establishing cooperation between the two universities in the form of joint scientific projects, student exchanges and the hosting of professors. In the following separate meetings, the representatives of the individual faculties of Charles University held discussions with their counterparts at the University of Cambridge (such as the College for Clinical Medicine, the Department of Zoology and the School of Humanities & Social Sciences) about specific areas of possible cooperation. They also visited the scientific facilities at the University of Cambridge.

In the evening of the same day, the delegation met up with Charles University alumni based in London. The Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Libor Sečka, was in attendance.

On the 19th and the 20th of April, the delegation, accompanied by Ambassador Sečka, continued with its journey and visited the universities in Oxford, Edinburgh and St. Andrews. During these visits, Rector Tomáš Zima and the delegation met with the top representatives of these universities, as well as with Czech and Slovak students studying in each of them.
