Our Consular Section accepts requests for citizenship inquiries from persons of Czech and Czechoslovak background
Our Consular Section itself does not determine, whether a person is or is not a Czech citizen, nor does it issue documents to this effect. The Consular Section helps the applicant prepare the request and forwards it to the respective regional authority in the Czech Republic to carry out the probe.
Anybody who thinks s/he could be a Czech citizen can file a request.
If the citizenship inquiry establishes that the applicant is a Czech citizen, the respective regional authority issues a citizenship certificate.
When establishing whether a person is or is not Czech (Czechoslovakian) citizen, laws and regulations applicable at the time of acquiring or loosing the citizenship are followed. Most frequently, citizenship is gained at birth. That means that most often, laws applicable at the time of birth are followed.

The following documents should generally be brought to the appointment:
a) any document attesting to the Czech (Czechoslovakian) citizenship of the applicant or of his/her parent/s - old passport, old citizenship certificate, domiciliary certificate, etc.;
b) birth certificate;
c) birth certificates of the parent/s;
d) marriage certificate;
e) marriage certificate of the parent/s;
f) death certificate (if the application is filed instead of a deceased person);
g) confirmation about a change of name (if such a change took place and the applicant or his parent/s are known in the Czech Republic under the original name);
h) identification document.
All public documents issued outside of the Czech Republic must be legalized, as applicable. Public documents issued in Malaysia must be superlegalized. All public documents in a foreign language must be officially translated into Czech.
Individual inquiries differ and the processing time varies accordingly from approx. three months to a year or more. In some instances, application for a citizenship certificate and for Czech registry documents (birth and marriage certificates) can be filed simultaneously. Application for passport of the Czech Republic can only be filed after obtaining these documents.
Administrative fees pursuant to the Administrative Fees Act No. 634/2004 Coll., as ammended, are charged. The payment is in CZK (cashless payment) or in MYR (in cash).
