New Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Kota Kinabalu Inaugurated

On 14th October 2017 the Czech Embassy in Kuala Lumpur organized, in collaboration with the incoming Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic, Mr. Vincent Tan, a ceremony of the opening of the Honorary Consulate in Kota Kinabalu, with the jurisdiction over the state of Sabah.

More than 100 VIPs accepted the invitation for the launching ceremony. The Guest of Honor from the Czech side was the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Martin Tlapa; from the Malaysian side the Guest of Honor was the Deputy Chief Minister of the Government of Sabah and Minister of Industrial Development, Honorable Raymond Tan, who represented the Chief Minister of Sabah, Honorable Musa Aman.

The Ambassador of the Czech Republic, H.E. Rudolf Hykl (host), the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, H.E. Martin Tlapa, the new Honorary Consul Vincent Tan and the Deputy Chief of Government of the State of Sabah, Raymond Tan, addressed in their speeches the guests during the launching ceremony, which took place in the ballroom of the Shangri La Tanjung Aru Hotel in Kota Kinabalu.

The Deputy Minister Tlapa, who handed over the Consular Commission to Mr. Vincent Tan, mentioned in his speech the interest of the Czech Republic in the development of business relations with Sabah, especially in the sectors such as renewable energy, water management, green technologies and food industry. Martin Tlapa also emphasized the role of the new Honorary Consul in providing assistance to Czech citizens, who visit Sabah. The Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah, Raymond Tan, welcomed the establishment of the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Kota Kinabalu and expressed support of the State Government. He also reminded of the dynamic development, which the State of Sabah experienced in the recent years, mainly in the area of infrastructure, renewable energy, green technologies and also in tourism.

Among the guests were high representatives of the State Government, Chambers of Commerce, Consular Corps and entrepreneurs. The inauguration of the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Kota Kinabalu was widely reported in all the local newspapers.
