Ambassador Rudolf Hykl was received on the 13th of August 2018 by the Chief Minister of Penang, Chow Kon Yeow, who assumed his office following the parliamentary elections in May 2018.
Ambassador Hykl discussed with the Chief Minister the interest of the Czech Republic to further develop contacts with the State of Penang. The industrial character of the Czech Republic makes it a natural partner for this Malaysian state. For example, the electrical engineering and computer technologies, also strongly represented in Penang, constitute the largest share of the bilateral trade between the Czech Republic and Malaysia, which stands at USD 1.5 billion a year.
Ambassador also informed about a number of activities in Penang, which were organized by the Czech Embassy in recent years, such as an ICT business mission, a mission of medical devices manufacturers, a mission of vice-chancellors of Czech universities or an exhibition on Czech Castles.
Chow Kon Yeow said his state is looking for a collaboration in technologically advanced industries, among others in mechanical engineering, machinery production, automation etc., where the Czech Republic has a strong position. An interest in practical projects to connect businesses, education and research institutions was mutually reaffirmed.
