Masaryk University in Brno, one of the most prominent higher education institutions in the Czech Republic, has become an increasingly attractive destination for international students, particularly from Malaysia, in recent years. Thanks to its international focus, the development of new research centers, involvement in European and non-European study projects, and a wide range of programs taught in English, the university has successfully attracted a growing number of Malaysian students. These students appreciate not only the high-quality education but also the safe multicultural environment and affordable living costs.
The success of Masaryk University in the field of internationalization is the result of long-term and strategic cooperation. The university regularly organizes information campaigns and workshops to highlight study opportunities in Brno and provide support during the application process. To further strengthen this collaboration, representatives from Masaryk University will visit Kuala Lumpur in September 2024. They plan to hold meetings at Monash University, which focuses its programs on research and development, as well as at high schools, to offer study programs in English in Brno. The Czech Embassy in Kuala Lumpur is also assisting with this mission, providing essential meetings and logistical support.
The goal of this mission is to deepen existing relationships and raise awareness of the study programs and opportunities that Masaryk University in Brno offers. The delegation, which includes Jitka Wolfová and Jitka Hotárková from the Project Department of the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University, will meet with representatives from Monash University and local schools. They will present specific options for future collaboration and new initiatives aimed at increasing the number of Malaysian students at Masaryk University. The trip to Kuala Lumpur is another step in expanding Masaryk University's global presence and strengthening its position as an internationally recognized educational institution. This initiative is expected to lead to further growth in the number of international students and contribute to the development of academic excellence at all levels.
Malaysian students are well-regarded in the Czech Republic for their enthusiasm for learning and their approach to education. A testament to their satisfaction with studying in Brno comes from Malaysian student Dahlia Sofea Kamarlozaman, who is enrolled in the Bachelor's program in Politics, Media, and Communication offered by the Faculty of Social Studies: “I chose this field because I am very interested in political science and enjoy analyzing political topics, including past elections. The program also offers deep insight into the relationship between politics and the media, which opens up wide opportunities for students in the future. To overcome the challenges of studying, I regularly turn to my professors, who are very approachable and experts in their fields.”
The Czech Embassy in Kuala Lumpur is increasingly focusing its activities on supporting cooperation not only in the business sector but also in education, science, and research, an area known as science diplomacy. The potential for such collaboration stems not only from the well-developed research infrastructure and high ratings of Czech and Moravian schools but also from the quality educational environment and highly rated safety index.
