“I am delighted that Mr Matula will represent  Czechia in Sweden. He has been interested in the region of Northern and Eastern Europe since he started at the ministry more than 30 years ago,” Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský said about the appointment. The experienced diplomat has already received the agrément, i.e. the consent to take up his post, from the Swedish side. 

Radek Matula previously served as Czech Ambassador to Azerbaijan and Deputy Ambassador in Moscow. Between 2017 and 2023, he headed the Czech diplomatic mission in Ukraine, which faced a full-scale Russian invasion during the last year and a half of his tenure in Kiev.
