In the coming months, Czech diplomacy will send a new ambassador to Moscow. The appointed ambassador is Daniel Koštoval.
"Key countries that are strategic allies of Czechia — such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Poland, and the United States — have ambassadors in Russia. I wish the ambassador much strength in this challenging mission to advance Czech interests," said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jan Lipavský.
Since 1996, Daniel Koštoval has served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Director of the Security Policy Department, Director of the Department for Northern and Eastern Europe, and Director General for Non-European Countries. From 1998 to 2002, he worked at the Permanent Delegation of the Czech Republic to NATO. He was posted at the Czech Embassy in Moscow (2003–2006) and at the Czech Embassy in Washington (2009–2011). In 2013, he was appointed First Deputy Minister of Defense. He subsequently served as Deputy Minister of Defense for Strategies, Foreign Relations, and Planning until the end of 2018, and later for Armament and Acquisition.
The new ambassador has already received approval from the host country, known as an agrément. He is expected to take office in the first months of next year.
