Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes Delegation of U.S. Congressional Staffers

On 5 October 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic welcomed a delegation of staffers serving members of the United States Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. The discussions focused on further strengthening Czech-U.S. relations, enhancing transatlantic cooperation, and exchanging views on current foreign policy and security issues.

The U.S. delegation was received by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jiří Brodský, who underscored the strategic importance of Czech-U.S. relations, based on shared values, common security interests, and long-standing cooperation within NATO. Together with other representatives of the Ministry, he outlined the main priorities of Czech foreign and security policy.

The discussions focused on issues related to European and Euro-Atlantic security, further strengthening NATO, support for Ukraine, developments in the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific region. “We had an open and substantive discussion with representatives of the U.S. Congress on how the Czech Republic can further develop its strategic partnership with the United States at a time of profound changes in the international environment. We discussed cooperation in security, defense and NATO, as well as trade, investment, modern technologies and innovation,” said Jiří Brodský, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The talks also covered opportunities to deepen cooperation in trade, advanced technologies, and energy. The Czech side also highlighted its interest in securing Czech participation in the E-1 Treaty Trader visa program, which would further promote trade and investment ties between the two countries. In this context, it expressed appreciation for the important role played by the U.S. Congress in advancing Czech-American relations. “We paid particular attention to the evolving priorities of U.S. foreign policy and the important role of Congress in shaping them. For the Czech Republic, strong transatlantic relations remain a key pillar of our security and prosperity, and it is in our interest that they be based on mutual respect, shared interests and tangible benefits for the citizens of both countries,” added Jiří Brodský.

The visit provided an opportunity to establish and deepen contacts with key advisors to U.S. lawmakers, who play an important day-to-day role in drafting legislation and shaping the foreign policy positions of the U.S. Congress. During their stay in the Czech Republic, the delegation will also visit the International Industrial Fair in Brno.
