Minister Lipavský Will Attend the Informal EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels

The Chief of Czech Diplomacy, Jan Lipavský, will attend the informal meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, the so-called Gymnich, in Brussels on Thursday 29 August. On the agenda will be the Russian war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.

EU foreign ministers will start by discussing Russia's ongoing war of aggression in Ukraine. In an informal discussion, they will discuss the way forward for the EU-27 in supporting the invaded country, the continuation of the peace process this autumn, Ukraine's ground operation in the Kursk region and the so-called winterisation, i.e. Ukraine's preparation for winter in the context of the unending Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure. The EU ministers will be joined in person by the head of Ukrainian diplomacy, Dmytro Kuleba.


They will also discuss the current situation in Venezuela following the presidential elections there, the results of which have not been recognised by the European Union. A working lunch with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, with whom his EU counterparts will discuss the common the European Union and Ankara, will be followed by a session on the Middle East. This will include a discussion of the current tense situation and the search for ways to de-escalate the conflict.
