Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel Gideon Sa'ar arrived in Czechia on his first official foreign visit. The Ministers discussed the current situation in the Middle East and bilateral cooperation.
"I welcome the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, which will allow the people of northern Israel and southern Lebanon to return to their homes. This agreement is a hope for calming down the situation in the whole region," Minister Lipavský said at the beginning of the meeting.
The mutual relations between Czechia and Israel are characterised by a long tradition and a common historical legacy. Israel is our strategic partner in the Middle East. "Israel is now fighting on several fronts and needs the support of its allies more than ever. Czechia has stood firmly by the Israelis, both before and after 7 October 2023. We repeatedly stress Israel's right to defend itself against terror," the Czech diplomatic chief expressed his support for Israel. Moreover, Minister Lipavský was the first foreign statesman to visit Israel after the attacks of 7 October 2023.
Czechia is also active in humanitarian aid, and the situation in the Gaza Strip is critical in this respect. Aid is needed especially in the segments of electricity and fuel, food, health, water and sanitation, shelter, education and protection of civilians. "Czech diplomacy deals with the humanitarian situation in Gaza on a daily basis. So far I have signed aid worth over one million dollars, which came from the budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Minister Lipavský said at the press conference.
