The meeting took place on Monday, 19 May, and the diplomatic chiefs confirmed their interest in deepening cooperation in European policies, including defence and security.
"We talked mainly about security in Europe. In this area, Czechia and Lithuania have long understood each other and have been pulling together. We will never forget Lithuania's support and solidarity after the Russian sabotage of the ammunition depot in Vrbětice," Minister Lipavský said.
Lithuania appreciates Czechia's long-standing contribution to NATO's common defence in the form of the regular participation of Czech Army soldiers in Lithuania and Latvia and the participation of the Czech Air Force in the so-called Air Policing in the Baltic States on the eastern flank of the Alliance. "Lithuania plays a key role in NATO's eastern flank. We are proud that Czech soldiers are also part of the forward presence. We plan to remain in Lithuania in the coming years," said Minister Lipavský.
The ministers also discussed the need to continue providing assistance to Ukraine. Both countries have been making maximum efforts since the beginning of the conflict, and these efforts need to be increased in today's turbulent times.
There was also consensus among the ministers on current issues and EU enlargement, as well as on support for increasing bilateral trade. The increase in tourism is also important and the direct flight between Prague and Vilnius, which has just been opened, will certainly contribute to this.
