
Minister Lipavský Spoke at the Prestigious European Forum Alpbach

On 23–24 August 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic took part in the European Forum Alpbach, one of Europe’s leading conferences focused on current political, security, economic, and social issues. As part of the panel “Europe in the World”, he delivered a speech dedicated to the security of Europe in the context ofthe current geopolitical situation.
In his remarks, the Minister emphasized the need to strengthen Europe’s defense readiness and highlighted the importance of Europe taking greater responsibility for its own security as well as the significance of transatlantic relations. “Europe must act independently where necessary, and with partners whenever possible,” Minister Lipavský underlined.
He also stressed the Czech initiative in the field of defense, including the supply of ammunition to Ukraine, and recalled that the Czech Republic has exceeded the threshold of 2% of GDP on defense spending and is on course to reach 3% by 2030. “Even a medium-sized country can achieve great things, as demonstrated by the Czech ammunition initiative,” the Czech Foreign Minister added.
During his visit, the Minister also met with Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Romanian Foreign Minister Oana-Silvia Toiu, and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Bundestag Armin Laschet to discuss bilateral cooperation and current issues of European security. On the margins of the conference, the Minister also met with Czech scholarship holders of the European Forum Alpbach, who contributed fresh ideas to the discussion on European cooperation.
