On Friday, 17 January 2025, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tanzania, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, at the Czernin Palace. They discussed bilateral relations and cooperation and security in Europe and Africa.
During the visit, the ministers confirmed the good Czech-Tanzanian relations, the two countries are united by democratic values and the emphasis on respect for the international legal order. “Tanzania is very popular with Czech tourists. In terms of visitors to Zanzibar, Czechs even rank in the top ten. Both Czechia and Tanzania have established honorary consulates. I also consider it important that we have intensive contacts with Tanzania at the parliamentary level. I also see Tanzania as an important security player in the region,” Minister Jan Lipavský said after the meeting.
In the discussion, the ministers focused specifically on the current dynamic development of cooperation in various areas. “Czech companies are already active in Tanzania in areas such as the modernisation and electrification of railways or in the aviation industry. This also includes technology transfer, know-how and education. But we are interested in doing even more, and in more sectors. We discussed the possibilities of closer cooperation in the field of health, research and environmental protection,” the Czech diplomatic chief added.
The ministers also discussed the possibilities of future multilateral cooperation and mutual support in exchanging candidacies for international organisations, including the Czech candidacy for the UN Security Council for the period 2032-2033. Last but not least, the meeting included an exchange of views on the current security situation in Europe and Africa.
