On Friday, August 30th, 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Lipavský and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Mihai Popșoi met at the Czernin Palace.
The ministers discussed the state of bilateral political and economic relations and possibilities of their further strengthening. Minister Lipavský valued the high intensity of bilateral meetings including the highly successful visit of Moldovan president Maia Sandu to Prague in October 2023. Furthermore, minister Lipavský emphasized that Moldova is one of the priority countries of the Czech development aid. "We are currently implementing projects in Moldova with a total value of almost 20 million euros, the share of projects aimed at strengthening security is close to one half," added the head of Czech diplomacy.
Ministers then discussed security issues in the region of Eastern Europe, which is negatively affected by the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine. „I have expressed to Moldova, which also has to deal with the Russian hybrid threats, our full support,” said minister Lipavský.
The enlargement of the European Union was yet another important topic of the meeting. Minister Lipavský highlighted the importance of Accession negotiations with Moldova that began in June 2024 and stressed that Czechia is one of the strongest supporters of Moldova’s EU Membership. „We are ready to share with Chișinău our experience with the Accession negotiations,” added Jan Lipavský.
Ministers Lipavský and Popșoi are both attending the Globsec 2024 Forum, which is held in Prague on August 30th – September 1st, 2024.
