Minister Lipavský Discussed Security in Europe with His British Counterpart in London

Between November 14 and 15 Minister Lipavský visited the United Kingdom. On the first day he met with his British counterpart David Lammy in London. The Ministers discussed the development of Czech-British relations, the conflict in Ukraine and current foreign policy issues.
“We were speaking about the ways we can further intensify our cooperation on more safe Europe and the containment of Russian influence,” said Minister Lipavský after the meeting In addition to European security, bilateral relations, trade cooperation and the future relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union were also discussed.
“A significant milestone in our relationship is the signing of the agreement between CEZ and Rolls-Royce. This is a really important milestone, because Czechia will not be purchasing any technology, but we will participate in the development and production of small modular reactors,” the Czech Foreign Minister added about the bilateral cooperation.
Jan Lipavský also met with the British Prime Minister's National Security Deputy Adviser Nick Catsaras, with whom they spoke about Czech-British cooperation in the foreign policy and security spheres and current security challenges.
During the two-day visit, the head of Czech diplomacy presented the Gratias Agit award to a historian and prominent figure in the Czechoslovak veteran community George Scott.
While in London, Minister Lipavský also attended the Magnitsky Human Rights Awards ceremony. Jan Lipavský had received this award for his contribution to the protection of human rights in 2022. “To speak out against the autocrats requires courage. Czechia will always stand by those who do so,” pointed out the chief of the Czech diplomacy during his speech.
“At the end of my trip, I met the Ukrainian Ambassador in London, Valery Zaluzhny. His courage and personal example have been crucial in repelling Russian aggression, which is an attack against all democratic countries. That is why I have decided to award him the Medal of Merit for Diplomacy,” Jan Lipavský added about his trip.
