Minister Lipavský Concluded His Indo-Pacific Tour in Japan

Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský visited Japan from 29 February to 2 March 2024, concluding his working trip to the Indo-Pacific. He held talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa on current security and economic issues and signed an air services agreement with her, which will pave the way for the launch of direct air links.

Minister Lipavský also delivered the keynote speech on the current security challenges and Czech membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation to a symposium of experts and journalists at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation. "We understood that Putin's ultimate goal is to destroy and renegotiate the European security architecture to make it favourable to Russian interests. In this twisted vision, the sovereignty and integrity of nearby countries, the freedom and will of their people would have to align with the Kremlin's policy," Lipavský said in his speech.

Minister Lipavský also held talks in Tokyo with Hanako Jimi, Minister for EXPO 2025, and Fukushiro Nukaga, Speaker of the lower house of the Japanese Parliament. At the Czech Embassy, Jan Lipavský then opened a business seminar and met with representatives of Czech-Japanese companies and with students and teachers from the Czech language department at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS). He also answered several questions for the student magazine.

At the end of his working trip to the Indo-Pacific, during which he also visited India and Australia, the head of Czech diplomacy met with politicians and organisers of EXPO 2025 in Osaka and supported Czech participation in the world exhibition.
