Minister Lipavský Attends the Magnitsky Awards in London

Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský paid a working visit to London on 13–14 November, during which he took part in the Magnitsky Awards ceremony. The awards honour human rights defenders and those who stand up to impunity in authoritarian regimes. At the event, he met with the founder of the campaign Bill Browder, Russian activist Vladimir Kara-Murza, and the leader of Belarus’s democratic forces Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.

It is important to show civil society in authoritarian countries that Czechia stands with them — that they are not forgotten and can count on our support. The protection of human rights has always been a cornerstone of Czech foreign policy. All of this year’s laureates are an inspiration for their courage and for defending truth and dignity even under extremely difficult conditions,” Minister Lipavský said.

At the UK Parliament, the Minister met with prominent British politician Priti Patel to discuss strengthening practical cooperation between Czechia and the United Kingdom in the areas of security, support for Ukraine, sanctions policy and trade.

On Friday, Minister Lipavský visited the Westminster Synagogue, where he met with Czech Rabbi Kamila Kopřivová to discuss the security of Jewish communities, the alarming rise in antisemitism, and the importance of Holocaust remembrance.
