The Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) meeting in Brussels took place on Monday, February 24, the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The meeting began with a moment of silence to honor the victims of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. Ministers approved the sixteenth sanctions package against Russia, targeting, among other things, ships from Russia’s shadow fleet and restricting the export of aluminum from Russia. The package also includes further export restrictions and measures to counter circumvention of sanctions. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha joined the EU foreign ministers via video call.
Ministers also agreed to suspend certain sanctions against Syria. Additionally, the Council approved amendments to the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement concerning roaming, which will allow Ukraine to join the EU roaming area starting this summer.
Following the Council meeting, the 13th EU-Israel Association Council took place, providing a key platform for dialogue on regional issues and EU-Israel relations.
