On Monday, 2 October 2023, Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský attended the first ever informal Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) in Kiev. Ministers discussed with their Ukrainian counterpart the support of the EU and its Member States in response to Russian aggression, Ukraine's integration into the EU and the country's reconstruction.
According to the Minister, the Czech priority remains prompt and sustainable military supplies. The EU must continue its support for Ukraine until Russia withdraws. "The holding of the FAC meeting directly in Kiev is a clear confirmation that we will stand by Ukraine as long as it is necessary, and at the same time we count on Ukraine joining the European family. During the meeting, we focused on extending support for Ukraine's peace plan to the countries of the Global South. I had several meetings with my African and Latin American counterparts on this topic during the UN General Assembly and I believe that the world understands that trampling on the UN Charter endangers everyone," said Minister Lipavský, expressing his full support for Ukraine's integration into the EU.
Minister Lipavský also stressed the Czech assistance to Ukraine and the cooperation with Czech companies so far. "Czechia is doing a lot for Ukraine - I was happy to come to Kiev with this in mind. I highlighted that Czech companies are successfully supporting and supplying the Ukrainian army and that we are ready to continue to cooperate," Lipavský said.
The Minister also appreciated Ukraine's progress so far in reforms, which are crucial for the beginning of the accession process. He further supported President Zelensky's peace plan as the only path to a just and lasting peace.
