The commemorative event for the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust and Prevention of Crimes against Humanity was opened on Thursday 25 January 2024 at the Czernin Palace by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský. The event was attended by more than 50 ambassadors and chargé d'affaires from diplomatic missions accredited in Czechia and several dozen representatives of international organisations, representatives of the Jewish community, students and other guests.
„The tragedy of the Holocaust is one of the darkest page in the modern history of human kind. It is our duty to ensure that it is never forgotten,” said the Czech diplomatic chief in his speech at the opening of the commemorative event. Ambassador Anna Azari of the State of Israel and Ambassador Bijan Sabet of the United States of America also delivered speeches.
The main part of the event was a speech by Holocaust survivor Dita Krausová, who stressed that even in the most difficult moments of life it is important to remain optimistic. This was followed by performances by opera singer Jaroslava Hannah Maxová, student Magdalena Hošková, violoncellist Vladimíra Sanvito, pianist Tatiana Dribas and Rabbi David Maxy. The commemoration was organized by the Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues, Interfaith Dialogue and Freedom of Religion or Belief, Robert Řehák.
