Foreign Minister Petr Macinka Held Talks with his Hungarian Counterpart

The future of the V4 format, the EU agenda, and bilateral relations between the Czech Republic and Hungary were the main topics discussed by Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka and Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó. Macinka received his Hungarian counterpart on 19 January 2026 at the Czernin Palace. Szijjártó was the first foreign minister Macinka received in his role as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

“I am very pleased with today’s meeting. Our discussion followed on from what we have been discussing with the Hungarian side at the Patriots for Europe level. We share many positions and agree on European issues such as energy, ideology, and security,” said the Czech foreign minister at a press conference after the meeting.

In addition to long-term bilateral and multilateral cooperation, the ministers also discussed current issues, including the situation in Ukraine, the Middle East, and Greenland. They also addressed migration, as well as the defence and economic policies of both countries.
