On 4–5 February 2026, the REAIM 2026 Summit was held in A Coruña, Spain, focusing on the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the military domain. At the summit, Deputy Minister Marie Chatardová expressed support for continued international dialogue in this dynamically developing field and highlighted both the existing potential and the risks associated with the military use of artificial intelligence. She also supported the adoption of the summit’s final political declaration, which offers concrete recommendations for the integration of artificial intelligence into military technologies.
The REAIM Summits (Responsible AI in the Military Domain) serve as an international platform for discussion on artificial intelligence in the military sphere, bringing together a broad range of stakeholders, including representatives of states, the private sector, civil society organizations, and academia. The central focus of REAIM is the concept of responsible AI in the context of military technologies, intended to guide the dynamic development of this field.
This year’s summit built on previous editions held in The Hague in 2023 and in Seoul in 2024. Its outcome was the adoption of a final document entitled Pathways to Action, which, drawing on prior policy discussions and international scientific cooperation, proposes concrete measures to ensure the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the military domain and calls for mutual coordination and cooperation in managing technological development.
A key point is the current consensus among all actors on the need to maintain human responsibility in relation to any weapons systems and decisions regarding their use. The document also acknowledges both the risks and the potential benefits of the military application of AI and calls for a balanced consideration of both.
